Biography

Taylor Roberts is perhaps most recognized for her role as Camilla Barnes on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Proving her versatility she went against her young ingĂ©nue demeanor to play the surprise murderer opposite Vincent D’Onofrio, Margaret Colin, and Brent Spiner.

Formerly an accomplished ballet dancer Taylor came of age in the highly disciplined dance field, performing with such companies as Ballet Austin and the Royal Ballet of London and training at the prestigious Kirov Academy of Ballet. At age 17 while studying as a ballet major at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, a severe injury took her out of dance, and the drama school came calling. The UNCSA Acting Conservatory accepted Taylor for their top-ranked college program and she excelled, taking on such roles as Rosalind in Shakespeare’s As You Like It, Emily in Our Town, Nastya in Gorky’s The Lower Depths, and Abigail Adams in 1776.

Upon graduating Taylor Roberts moved to New York and immediately found success when she booked a principal role in Mona Lisa Smile, directed by Mike Newell and starring Julia Roberts. Taylor again impressed everyone she worked with, turning a two line part into multiple appearances throughout the film, and learning from the likes of Ms Roberts, Marcia Gay Harden, Dominic West, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

The next role Taylor tackled was a mentally challenged savant in Melissa Painter’s, Admissions. After weeks of casting Taylor surprised everyone in Los Angeles by booking the part from a tape sent from New York. In Admissions Taylor gracefully fashioned the character based on research and work with savants in and around LA. Her co-stars in this film were Lauren Ambrose, Amy Madigan, Christopher Lloyd and John Savage.

In addition to her time on set, Taylor was invited to participate in a series of staged readings of Betsy and Napoleon with Al Pacino, playing the title role of Betsy to Mr. Pacino’s Napoleon. She considers these readings a highlight of her career, working alongside Mr. Pacino, F.Murray Abraham, Scarlett Johansson, Carol Kane, Sam Rockwell, Eric Stoltz, and Bebe Neuwirth, to name a few. Taylor so impressed Mr. Pacino that he personally invited her back for several readings over the years, even asking her to help him rehearse for the Merchant of Venice, reading Portia to his Shylock.
